Morocco

Moroccan food involves dramatic blends of fragrant herbs and spices including cumin, turmeric, ginger, mint and coriander, just to name a few. Thanks to Morocco’s multi-cultural heritage, you can expect Mediterranean, Berber and Andalusian influences in the country’s aromatic tagines, hearty couscous and meals of spiced chicken, beef, lamb and camel.

Turkey

Turkish cuisine ranges from the robust to the delicate and has some of the most varied dishes in the world. With a rich history of Middle Eastern and Central Asian influences, Turkey boasts unique spice mixes and sweet treats you’d be mad not to sample. Enjoy a healthy helping of köfte made from spiced Turkish beef or lamb, followed by sweet and sticky baklava made from layers of filo pastry, chopped nuts and syrup or honey. Wash is all down with a glass of hot apple tea – a Turkish classic.

Italy

While there’s nothing wrong with a classic lasagne or spaghetti bolognese, there is so much more to be discovered in Italy’s restaurants and markets. Try venetian cicchetti, milanese risotto, tuscan salami and sicilian cannoli. For an alternative to pasta, try freshly made gnocchi served in a rich tomato sauce or with some locally caught calamari. Italian seafood is some of the freshest you’ll ever eat. Enjoy with a caprese salad made with farm-fresh mozzarella and juicy tomatoes, garnished with local basil, olive oil and black pepper.

Greece

Greece isn’t all feta cheese and olives - though they are heavenly. This country has a rich food history that can be traced back to the first cookbook ever written – by a Grecian named Archestratos, no less – in 320 BC. As well as its famous moussaka, Greece has its own version of tapas known as mezze, featuring lamb, pork, garlicky dips, heaps of vegetables and delicious seafood such as grilled octopus.
Whether you are partial to parmesan, besotted with baklava or have a keen nose for spices, there’s a wealth of choice out there for foodie holidays. Where will your taste buds take you?
