A GUIDE TO FRENCH ALP CHALETS

Sometimes you want something a little different from your holiday. A break from hotel rooms and the chance to live more independently. A place you can truly call home in stunning surroundings that function as a base for adventures. Chalet living is an experience that many people love and Club Med offers beautiful, affordable places to stay in the French Alps where you can appreciate this lifestyle to the full. Whether you go in winter and summer here is what we offer in terms of accommodation and the things you can do in the local area.

What to expect from a chalet

There is nothing like chalet living, feeling like a local and being part of the natural landscape.

At Club Med you get all the benefits of all-inclusive when staying in a chalet, meaning access to the activities and services you would expect such as gourmet meals, excursions and kids clubs. It also includes a local guest lounge to enjoy a glass of something fizzy or simply relax before heading out into the night.

With a chalet you can also have meals prepared in your new home as well as having someone available 24 hours a day to answer your questions or make your stay even more comfortable. Every morning you will be able to open your front door to amazing views and either ski straight out onto the slopes or set off on another trip amongst trees and rivers.

When everyone is back at base at the end of a fun day there will be a lot of room to spread out and relax. In the winter a roaring fire will be prepared for you. Choose a book from the library, enjoy some multimedia time with free wi-fi or pack your ski equipment away in useful storage places and plan tomorrow’s sport. It is your space, your way of living together with the service you would expect from a top hotel.

Why France?

There are many mountain regions that offer you amazing views and crisp fresh air for winter ski holidays and summer retreats. In our opinion, nowhere is more beautiful in any season than the French Alps. During the colder months the snow brings a magical fairytale quality to the region with twinkling little villages and dramatic scenery to be explored as well as the unique French Alpine culture that offers so much quality in terms of cuisine and activities. In summer, the mountains turn a glorious green and become a paradise of nature where you and your family can enjoy sparkling lakes, exciting mountain treks and the bluest of skies.

Which resort should I choose?

The good news is that you can’t go wrong when choosing a Club Med French chalet. Our two main resorts offer a tremendous amount to do and see with spectacular scenery that will take your breath away. However, both offer slightly different and your choice will be based on what you are looking for in your chalet holiday.

Stunning Valmorel

Whether you are a skier or a family on a summer holiday, The Valmorel Chalet-Apartments has it all and everything can be enjoyed to the full from the comfort of your own chalet.

The chalet apartments have been designed by noted architect Pierre Diener. Combining privacy and facilities of the highest quality, the contemporary style melds perfectly with authentic living and runs through everything from the furniture to the smallest decorative detail. In the winter there are few cosier places to be than Valmorel but if you do want to leave your new home then it is only a short walk or ski to the welcome lounge and the 5Ψ Bar de la Tour at Club Med. In the summer, stand out on your wooden terrace and take in the vast vistas of the Alps.

Chalets can come with 2,3 and 4 bedrooms meaning your holiday can be a couples experience or with a lively group of 10 enjoying the mountains together. You will find the chalets to be spacious enough for everyone to find their own place. And get away from it all if needed.

Perfect location

There is lots to see and do in the surrounding areas. Based in the heart of the Massif de la Tarentaise you will be at an edge of a forest that is magical to explore in winter or summer. The centre of Valmorel is utterly charming with its pedestrian streets and little squares made from traditional materials rather than steel and glass. The village is sleepy but stimulating with a full street of modern shops and places for you and the family to picnic. The lack of cars makes it a refreshing break from the worries of modern life.

Cyclists may recognise the area. The local Col de la Madeleine is a well used climb in the Tour De France. The hiking club will allow you to discover the large region and its wild natural areas. You will come across ancestral farms along the wooded slopes of the mountain as you follow in the footsteps of local wildlife. Take a break from skiing by touring down a tree-lined route to the small village of Doucy and explore its charms before heading back up the mountain to carry on with your fun.

The grandeur of the Grand Massif

The Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon Chalet-Apartments offer you an equal amount of luxury and beauty. They are based in one of the most beautiful locations in the Alps and your chalet will offer amazing views of the most protected valleys in the entire mountain range.

You can choose between 2 and 3 bedroom chapters both of which offer contemporary design that is still in keeping with traditional mountain style. And you will be based only a very short distance from the 4Ψ Resort where all facilities are available.

Winter and summer fun

In the colder months, glide down the snowy slopes of the Haute Savoie, then snuggle up in a chic yet family-friendly resort. When you are not on the pistes, relax in the luxurious Hammam spa while the kids tackle the climbing wall or learn to DJ. Later, enjoy a Gourmet Lounge menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Edouard Loubet or try the unique Family Experience Restaurant where kids are the chefs.

In the summer, explore picturesque landscapes including over 30 waterfalls and charming local hamlets awash providing the best in Alpine culture. Chantemerle is one of the highest places to visit, with a fabulous panoramic view of the valley. Vercland is famous for its stonemasons, and Vallons for its picturesque farms. Alternatively, try wakeboarding, cycling, climbing or making use of the extensive spa facilities. Above all, soak up the summer mountain ambience, recharge your batteries and enjoy your adventures in this beautiful region.
