When to Visit Cherating
The best time to visit Cherating is between April to October, even though the weather in Malaysia is generally warm and humid all year. The rainy season runs from October to April and Cherating does get quite a heavy rainfall so it’s best to avoid visiting during this time!
Cherating Attractions
Not only famous for its beaches, there are also plenty to do in Cherating if you are a nature and animal lover. Some of the best attractions here are:
Cherating Beach: But of course! The best part about the beach is how relatively quiet it is compared to the other popular beaches in Malaysia, but no less alluring and beautiful. The sand here is white and fine, with soft lapping waves and shady coconut trees lining the shore. The waves here are also perfect for surfing so you might be tempted to try doing that!
Cherating Turtle Sanctuary: Located just next to Club Med, this turtle sanctuary is a must visit in Cherating. You will find tanks of rehabilitating sea turtles and may also be lucky to see some baby turtles that are waiting to be released to the sea. Visitors can also take part in the night tours which will allow you to see the turtles in action, laying eggs by the shore and covering them up with sand. This place is free but donation is much appreciated to keep the conservation work going!
Mangrove River and Fireflies Tour: A unique sight in Cherating is the mangrove river where you can see the mystical jungle world that is quite different from the usual hiking expedition in the forest. Head out to either the mangrove river cruise to observe the lives of the flora and fauna from a boat cruising down the river, or opt for the fireflies tour at night. You will get to see these magical creatures adorning the trees making them look like Christmas trees in the silence of the pitchblack night. Truly an unforgettable experience!
Sungai Lembing Mines: Located about an hour from Cherating, you will find one of the deepest mines in the world and even get to sit in the minecart to experience what it was like to be working in the mine. Be sure to also check out the local town and markets nearby after the mine tour.
