Phuket is probably the most well-known place to visit in Thailand, and for very good reasons: it has some of the best beaches in the world, a vibrant nightlife, amazing local cuisine and lush green nature. Patong Beach is an area in Phuket that receives the most visitors in Phuket, and that’s because there is so much to do in this beach resort town. Here’s a list of the top five things to do in Patong, Phuket:
1. Watersports
Patong Beach is a great place to be if you are looking for some exciting adrenaline-pumping time on the water. Walk along the beach and you will find many water sports offerings, whether it’s jetskiing, parasailing, windsurfing or something for a bigger group like going on a banana boat.
If you’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, head to Surf House Patong for a lesson on surfing. This is the perfect place for beginners as you can practice with artificial waves before heading to the open sea with more menacing waves. If you want something more challenging, fret not as the speed of the waves can be controlled so there is something for every surfer level!
2. Thai Massage
One of the best reasons to visit Thailand is for the incredibly affordable and relaxing Thai massages. What better way to spend your day after a long night of partying, surfing and walking than with a soothing spa session. You can find spas and massages for all budget ranges and the selections of techniques are varied as well.
Whether you are looking for something relaxing or something stronger in pressure, you will be sure to find it in Patong. From traditional Thai massages to hot stone therapies, these highly-skilled masseuses will untie all your knots and soothe your aching body. This is a highly-recommended thing to do so you can feel refreshed for another day of exploring Phuket!
3. Nightlife
The main reason why Patong is often packed with people is because of the vibrant nightlife. Come evening, the neon lights are turned on and the music starts blasting.
Head towards Bangla Street as it is the most lively area of Patong and is filled with bars, nightclubs and live performances. Soak in the air of youth and embrace the entertaining sights of all kinds of people having the time of their lives. The best part is the drinks here are very affordable as well so you most definitely won’t be breaking your bank!
4. Cabaret Show
When you are in Patong, be sure to check out the many types of shows available! A highly-recommended thing to do in Phuket is to check out the Simon Cabaret Show for a magnificent showcase of gorgeous costumes and beautiful performers. You will most definitely be entertained by the glitz and glamour of the dancing and singing, and leave with memories of a great night!
This show is also kid-friendly as opposed to the other seedy offerings in the area, and you can also take pictures with the performers after for the perfect memento of Phuket.
5. Muay Thai
Another must-do in Patong is to catch a live Muay Thai match! Muay Thai is Thailand’s national sport, and is the pride and glory of many Thais so be sure to watch it to see what the fuss is all about. The best part of watching the match is actually not the match itself, but the pre-match rituals that follow as well as the ambience of the stadiums. Fighters perform Wai Khru, a dance to pay respects with traditional Thai music as its backdrop.
Be warned though as the fight can get pretty violent and utilises all parts of the body. Matches take place every Monday, Thursday and Saturday nights at Patong Boxing Stadium and Bangla Boxing Stadium.
