Discover the native Ainu Culture
The Ainu are the tribal people of Hokkaido. They are famous for their cultural practices, and have a distinctive style of patterning which they apply to their crafts, clothing and tattoos. Traditional Ainu attire called “Kaparamip” are usually made with fabric woven from the bark of indigenous trees, with distinguishing  Ainu patterns traditionally passed down from mother to daughter, making each design different.
